Not knowing French, I took a day trip to Paris from London by rail. Back in the states, I never travel using the rail because it’s unreliable and as expensive as flying. This is not the case here in UK/Europe. We’ve traveled by rail a few times now and love it. As I mentioned, I don’t speak French, but I did take a semester of it in college. That was over 15 years ago, and believe it or not, I didn’t have much opportunity to speak French living in the midwest, so I lost it.
I do remember a few things, you know words and phrases that help while traveling for example: Where is the WC? Do you speak English or Spanish? How much does this cost? Not enough French to carry a conversation I know, but that didn’t stop us.
